FATE CANCELLED DUE TO HURRICANE MILTON

A LETTER FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

At 4:00 this afternoon, the executive board met and made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel this year’s FATE conference. I was holding out hope, but when it got to a Category 5 and the airport posted shutdowns, we felt there was no other option.

We have sent a letter to the hotel to activate our force majeure clause, which protects us in events that are defined as acts of God.

Here is what you may need to know.

1. If you personally made a reservation, call and cancel it asap. This hotel needs rooms for evacuees from  areas expecting a direct hit.

2. If you paid for howl-o-scream, I will refund you your payment.  Just give me some grace on time and I promise you will get your money back.

3. For vendors and participants– we automatically roll what you paid this year over to next year.  If you need your money back I can’t refund it without board approval so you will need to email me a letter– but I hope that you will be okay with  what amounts to pre-paying your registration for next year. There may be a slight price increase, but  I don’t expect it to be much. I do want to move this conference to September if possible to avoid hurricane season.

4. We are still deciding what to do about award winners for this year. The board will meet as soon as we can find a time when we all have internet and power and figure it out.

Please know that this was not an easy decision to make- but it was the right one. Nothing is more important than your safety and well being.

If you have any specific questions for me, email me while you still have power and internet.

Stay safe my friends.

We are teachers– we are resilient and strong.
